Turbulent history of Sabac region left many material traces until today. The longest period of town development lasted five centuries and is connected to Turkish conquests and power. The most impressive motive comes from that period and still testifies about those hard and glorious days. It is the Fortress on the right bank of the river Sava and that location is named after it -‘the Old Town’ (Stari Grad). It is 1km far from the town centre and with its natural surroundings that is converted into a beautiful leisure centre represents a favourite holiday resort of Sabac citizens. Right next to the fortress there is the town beach on the Sava and in summer the place is swarmed with youth, laughter and games. On the other hand, the fortress remains stand with dignity like a silent witness of centuries-long bloody battles for dominance and as a proof of the significance of Sabac as a border-town through its glorious history.
The tourist-leisure centre ‘Stari Grad’ becomes the centre of sport in Sabac even more. Canoeists (Milan Denadic, the official world champion, trains here), wrestlers, motonautics competitors, archers, divers are located here. In ‘Stari grad’, you can recreationally play basketball, volleyball, table tennis, do athletics…
