It was founded in 1934 but since 1954 it has been situated in the former High school building. A gallery for occasional exhibitions and a part of permanent arrangement are located on 800m² of exhibition space. The museum collections are very numerous: prehistoric, antique (statues of god Mercury and goddess Venus stand out), numismatic, collection of art (works of Stevan Calic, Mara Lukic-Jelesic, Branko Lala Stankovic, Milic from Macva and many other significant painters should be mentioned).
The historic department, apart from others, also saves three medals that Sabac won due to many casualties in The First World War: the French war cross with palm branch, Czechoslovakian war cross and Karadjordje’s star with swords of 4th order.
Ethnological collection, as the most attractive part of the permanent arrangement, saves the interior of a village house with a fireplace where the life of a family kept going on.
