‘Civijada’ takes place in September, every year, before the Nativity of Virgin Mary and Sabac Fair. It is the cultural-tourist manifestation that cherishes original humour of people from this area, from Macva, Posavotamnava and Pocerina, and, of course, from Sabac as the centre of all happenings. ‘Civijada’ depicts the spirit of Sabac citizens and their readiness for jokes and quips both at someone else’s and their own expense. It is said that long time ago, a duke came in Sabac and on his way back, he ended up in the dust because some witty citizen of Sabac had pulled the bolt out of his wheel. Ever since then, the citizens of Sabac have been widely known as ‘civijasi’ who save and cherish humour and satire tradition.
Modern ‘Civijada’ has many programmes: Humour and satire evenings, caricature exhibitions, children’s ‘Civijada’, ‘ficijada’… and, of course, election of the prime minister of Civijaska Republic. Every year, a prize contest for best aphorisms and caricatures is also announced. All those programmes provoke great attention of citizens and tourists, and they are all especially interested in who is going to be the new ‘president’. The names of former presidents of ‘Civijaska’ Republic: Mile Stankovic, Branko Copic, Bora Oljaca, Mija Aleksic, Dusan Kovacevic, Sinisa Pavic, Seka Sabljic, Milenko Zablacanski, Bogoljub Mitic ‘Djosa’, Milan ‘Lane’ Gutovic, say enough about the quality and level that ‘Civijada’ possesses.
All best satire and humour creators not only from Serbia but also from Former Yugoslavia are regularly present in the newspaper called ‘Civijada’ that comes out only at the time of the manifestation.
This year, in the middle of September, ‘Civijada’ will also be organized – to summarize the results of former ‘government’ and choose the new one, to hear what new candidates propose and what kind of happiness and prosperity they offer, to amuse ourselves and contemplate and to welcome everyone who wishes to come to Sabac (‘Little Paris’ and ‘the capital of Civijaska Republic’) at the time. |
