The theatre of Sabac continues the long tradition of theatrical life in Sabac area. Namely, the first theatrical performance in this area was presented in 1832 in a nearby village Nakucani. Later, performances were sporadically held in Sabac and other places whereas the organized theatrical life began in 1840.
Today, the theatre of Sabac is the only professional theatre in the region. Long time ago, it achieved the reputation of one of the most successful theatres in Serbia because it won numerous valuable prizes and acknowledgements in many theatrical competitions. The theatre organizes and accomplishes theatre festivities such as ‘The actor’s days’ that gather the most successful theatrical ensembles from our country every October.
Every year, this theatre manages to prepare a few premier performances, which stands for a real accomplishment considering current cultural conditions. Actors from Sabac are more and more frequently involved both in television projects and film shootings, which represents a great acknowledgement for the home theatre as well. The theatre achieves the greatest success with comedies, some of which have been performed for more than hundred times being always accompanied by overcrowded and satisfied audience. Performances are presented in the theatre building that is waiting to be reconstructed.
